What’s that, only 4 points? It seems a little on the
low side from here but maybe the Vegas Boys know something we don’t. We have
avoided all of the nonsensical pre-game hype leading up to this game (or
perhaps we’re still licking our wounds from the AFC Championship). In any event,
it’s a week full of blah-blah-blah that we’d just as soon avoid.
This game shouldn’t be so hard to figure out. The
49’ers are the more talented team and they should prevail and cover in the
process. Neither team played like gangbusters in their respective conference
championships. The ‘Niners had to claw back from a 17-point deficit and only
broke through with the winning score in the closing moments in Atlanta. The
Ravens played well against New England it was more a case of the Patriots playing badly rather than the Ravens having a
dominant outing.
The Ravens have gotten this far on hard work and
riding the emotional wave of Ray Lewis’ Last Hurrah. The ‘Niners got here in
large part due to a mid-season quarterback change that worked out better than
anyone could’ve imagined. The ‘Niners defense has been building for this
opportunity since the day they drafted Patrick Willis. But it wasn’t ‘til Colin
Kaepernick stepped in at quarterback that the puzzle pieces all fit together.
It will be intriguing to see how the Ravens’ D
handles Kaepernick. They may be able to throw a few confusing looks at
Kaepernick but the Ravens’ D simply can’t match up with his speed once he gets
outside the pocket. They’re old and slow and can’t keep up with the ‘Niners’
speed. Flacco may be a good quarterback, but cannot compete with San Francisco should
this turn into a track meet.
Look for a cautious and slow start by both teams,
but once the ‘Niners get it in gear, watch out! In this Battle of The Brothers,
Little Brother wins going away.
