Week 16 MNF Preview:
At Chicago -4 Green Bay 40
After Sunday’s pathetic showing there was serious debate as to whether we’d dare show our faces until spring, but the show must go on. Monday night features the renewal of the NFL’s oldest rivalry, and it ought to be a swell night at Soldier Field with temperatures at a balmy 5º and snow showers possible.
But, it’s perfect weather for the Sons of Lambeau and Halas to reacquaint, despite their respective records (which mean nothing). In a world where free-agent mercenaries compete seemingly with no loyalty other than their next pay day, Bears-Packers remains one of the truly genuine rivalries in professional sports that transcends labor contracts and agents. The players are aware just how special this rivalry is and always bring their “A” game.
Many are the NFL greats who have played in this drama, yet so are the relative unknowns, such as local hero Bob Margarita (pictured above), who had a brief but spectacular career with Chicago before family commitments called him back to New England, where he embarked on a great career in college and high school coaching. Bob passed away over the summer, and we pay tribute to a True Son of George Halas.
The Pack will be going home after next week while the Bears are shooting for the top spot in the NFC North after Minnesota’s loss yesterday and simply must win this game. The Bears have double the motivation and will win on a miserable night at home.
Projected Final Score: Chicago 23, Green Bay 16
