Certainly not a great week, but not a bad one either. Briefly re-capping the action, the first note is for Trent Green: RETIRE. NOW! The Aints may just run the table now…maybe Reggie Bush was more hype than substance. Don’t be fooled by the Patriots’ score. The Browns played a tough game and New England needs to ramp things up next week if they hope to beat Dallas. Same thing goes for Them Cowboys as well, as they went into Buffalo and came within one second of losing. Romo was atrocious (five picks).
Game Balls:
1. Buffalo: The came out in their AFL colors, the crowd was insane and the team played with passion and intensity throughout. They ought to hold their heads high after this game.
2. Washington: The ‘Skins had a great day as the defense smothered Kitna.
3. NY Giants: They steal the bragging rights and further come together as a team. Maybe things are not as hopeless as appeared heading into the season.
4. Miami: Even though they’re 0-5 with Cleo Lemon at the controls, Houston needed a last second field goal to prevail. That kind of heart and determination is bound to shortly produce wins for the Dolphins.
5. Carolina: With Jake done for the year, it’s David Carr’s turn. He came back from an injury to lead the team to victory. Hopefully, this will give the team a kick start to controlling the NFC South.
6. Arizona: Leinart is down indefinitely with a broken collarbone, so Kurt Warner goes from ace reliever back into the starting rotation. It’s been a renaissance year for Warner that we hope continues.
Duds:
1. Green Bay: They were leading 20-10 late in the third and seemingly stopped trying, giving the game away to the Bears at the end. It was a sorry display at Lambeau that sure does not sit well with the Football Gods. Could you imagine what it would be like if Lombardi were reviewing the film of this one? It would not be pretty, for sure.
2. Denver: They stink.
3. Kansas City: Forgetaboutit…
4. Seattle: What happens when the offense simply fails to show up for a scheduled game? That was just awful.
Week 5 Injuries of Note:
Packers C Scott Wells: Broken Eye Socket- Out Indefinitely.
Seattle FB Mack Strong: Neck Injury- Retired.
Denver C Tom Nalen: Torn Biceps- Out For Season
Tampa Bay RB Michael Pittman –Ankle Injury- Out 6-8 Weeks
Falcons LT Wayne Gandy: Knee Injury- Out For Season
Seahawks WR Deion Branch: Foot Injury - Out Indefinitely
Arizona QB Matt Leinart: Broken Collarbone- Out Indefinitely
Miami QB Trent Green was knocked out (AGAIN!!) and taken from the field on a stretcher.
