Crimson Chronicles

Game 7 v. Dartmouth (10/29/11):

On a snowy Saturday night at the Stadium, the 5-1 Crimson faced the Dartmouth Big Green. The Crimson won the toss and elected to defer until the second half. The Big Green pushed the ball to Harvard's 45 on their opening drive on several rushes by Nick Schwieger but ended up punting away. Collie Winters started at quarterback for Harvard and imnmediately connected with Kyle Juszczyk for 19. Two plays later, Treavor Scales rushed off right tackle for 42 yards down to Dartmouth's 23. After picking up another first down at the 13, Winters rushed in from there. Mothander's extra point attempt failed so the Crimson took an early 6-0 lead. On Dartmouth's next drive, Connor Kempeled the Green offense down to Harvard's 13 where Foley Schmidt kicked a 27-yard field goal to put Dartmouth on the board. Seitu Smith then had a great kickoff return out to Dartmouth's 44. From there, Zach Boden rushed down to the 21 on the final play of the quarter.

Boden then rushed two more times, the second carry for 8 and into the end zone and the Crimson went ahead, 13-3.After a great punt by Dan Barstein pinned the Crimson at their 1, Winters went to work. On third down, he connected with Cameron Brate for 18 yards. The Crimson then stuck to the ground game, rushing the ball 11 straight times down to Dartmouth's 1, where Scales banged into the end zone and the Crimson were up 20-3.

Harvard got the ball to open the third quarter at the 23. Once again, Winters stuck to the ground attack, moving the ball all the way to Dartmouth's 33, where Matt Brown grabbed a pass for 11 more. On second down from the 21, Boden ran all the way to the 4. From there, Winters scrambled into the end zone and the Crimson were ahead 27-3. On Dartmouth's next possession, they moved the ball to midfield, where they elected to go for it on fourth and six. Kempe's pass was then dropped by Bo Patterson and the Crimson took over on downs. Boden and Scales had rushes that took the ball down to the 27. From there, Winters connected with Juszczyk for 20. From the 7, Boden rushed in to give the Crimson a 34-3 lead. Harvard gotthe ball back at their 5 midway through the quarter and, sticking to the ground, moved the ball to midfield. Winters thenb rushed for 29 down to the Dartmouth 17. A penalty against Harvard then moved the ball back 15 yards. On third down from the 16, Winters rushed for 12. Scales then rushed three straight times and on his third crack at the end zone, he finally scored. With the point after, the Croimson were ahead, 41-3.

Moving into the fourth quarter, Dartmouth got the ball back following an exchange of punts. Alex Park replaced Kempe at quarterback and he effectively led the offense from the 5 to the 44, where a personal foul call against Harvard's Jonathan Mason moved the ball across midfield. Using the run and pass, Park moved the ball down to Harvard's 13, where he hit Brad Dornak for 11. From the 2, Dominick Pierre rushed in for Dartmouth's first touchdown of the game. That drive chewed nearly nine minutes off the clock, leaving the Crimson to take a knee and walk off the snowy Stadium turf with a great 41-10 victory.
