The 128th Renewal of THE Game
Crimson Chronicles
Game 10 at Yale (11/19/11):
Prior to the game, there was a tragic accident in the parking lot which claimed the life of a 30-year old woman from Salem, Mass. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
The Eli won the toss and elected to defer until the second half. On third down from the 49, Collier Winters rushed up the middle for 23 yards. The Crimson moved the ball down to Yale’s 15 where Winters rushed up the middle but fumbled at the 3 and Yale recovered in the end zone for a touchback. After an exchange of punts, Yale got the ball at midfield and Patrick Witt moved the ball down to the 24, where he connected with Liguori in the end zone to give the Eli an early 7-0 lead. The Crimson started out their next drive at the 27. Winters connected with Chris Lorditch and then Treavor Scales rushed off right tackle to midfield. Alex Sarkisian then grabbed a pass and gained 12. From the 33, Winters hit Zach Boden, who rambled down to the 4. From there, Winters rushed in and the game was tied, 7-7. On Yale’s next possession, Liguori fumbled and the ball was recovered by Jaron Wilson at the 43.
By the time the second quarter started, Winters had guided the Crimson offense to Yale’s 20. Winters then found Sarkisian in the end zone and the Crimson went up 14-7. On Yale’s next possession, Witt led the offense to Harvard 16, where the drive stalled. Panico attempted a 33-yard field goal that was blocked by Bobby Schneider. On second down, Winters hit Adam Chrissis for 11. On fourth and goal from the 5, the Crimson lined up for a field goal. David Mothander took the option snap from the holder and rolled to the left untouched into the end zone to make it 21-7. Yale started out their opening drive at the 18 but ended up punting away. The Crimson took over at the 44 but went three n’ out. On Yale’s next drive, Witt’s pass on third down was intercepted by Jack Dittmer at the 18. The Crimson moved the ball down to the 12, but Mothander’s field goal attempt missed wide to the left. After an exchange of punts, Yale got the ball back in decent position and moved the ball to Harvard’s 30, where they elected to go for it on fourth and 5. Witt’s pass was intercepted again by Wilson, who returned the ball back to the 40. Winters then rushed the ball to midfield. On third down, Winters connected with Sarkisian for 30 and then to Kyle Juszczyk for 9 more.
Moving into the fourth quarter, Zach Boden banged off right tackle and into the end zone to make it 31-7. On Harvard’s next possession, Winters connected with Juszczyk on third down and Juszczyk raced 60 yards down the left sideline into the end zone and the rout was on at 38-7. On Yale’s next drive, Witt’s pass on third down was intercepted by team captain Alex Gedeon at the 32 and he raced into the end zone to make it 45-7. After another Yale punt, the Crimson got the ball back late in the quarter and ran the clock down to a minute remaining. Yale acknowledged defeat and ran the ball a couple of times into the line to end the game.
Illegitimum Non Carborundum;
Domine salvum fac.
Illegitimum Non Carborundum;
Domine salvum fac.
Gaudeamus igitur!
Veritas non sequitur?
Illegitimum non Carborundum -- ipso facto!
Ten thousand men of Harvard
want vict'ry today,
For they know that o'er old Eli
Fair Harvard holds sway.
So then we'll conquer old Eli's men,
And when the game ends, we'll sing again:
Ten thousand men of Harvard
gained vict'ry today!
