Week 10 Preview:

At NY Jets -6.5 Jacksonville 40

Last week, the Jags didn’t quite cover themselves in glory in their win over the dreadful Chiefs. This week, they travel to the Meadowlands to face a Jet team coming off a bye and are probably still licking their wounds after the Week 8 loss to Miami. The Jags can run the ball well with Jones-Drew and the Jets’ loss of Jenkins in the middle creates a huge hole. If the Jets continue along the path of mediocrity then they’ll be packing it in shortly. For a season that started with such promise, that’d be an awful waste.

Projected Final Score: NY Jets 20, Jacksonville 17

Denver -3.5 At Washington 36

The bubble has burst in a big way for the Broncos, but thanks to the schedule, they have a shot to remain relevant in the AFC as they travel to Washington for a date with the pathetic Redskins. Portis is probably out with a concussion, so there goes about 50% of (what’s left of) Washington’s offense. It was just the lucky break the Broncos needed.

Projected Final Score: Denver 24, Washington 16

At Pittsburgh -6.5 Cincinnati 42

This is the week where we’ll find out whether the Bengals are for real. After completely shutting down the Ravens at home last week, this week they have a real tough test against a Steeler team that looks like they’re ready to roll through the AFC North. The Bengals’ D had a great effort last week, but this week they’ll face a quarterback that has many more weapons at his disposal.

Projected Final Score: Pittsburgh 24, Cincinnati 17

At Tennessee -6.5 Buffalo 41

OK, maybe some of us were wrong about Vince Young. Since he returned to the starting lineup the Titans have ended their ugly funk and have rebounded quite well. Look for Chris Johnson to have a big afternoon against Buffalo’s woeful run defense. The poor Bills showed a spark of life for a brief time before the bye before fading, though they’ll never quit. They may get overwhelmed, but they won’t quit.

Projected Final Score: Tennessee 24, Buffalo 16

At Minnesota -16.5 Detroit 48

The Vikes come out of the bye looking to nail down the division title before December. Luckily for them the oh-so-awful Lions come to the BaggieDome just trying to survive until Week 17. Favre is still riding high after going into Lambeau and proving many of his doubters wrong, But he was riding just as high at this time last year before taking an epic fall.

Projected Final Score: Minnesota 34, Detroit 17

New Orleans -13.5 At St. Louis 50

This is yet another mismatch presented by the schedule maker. Last week Carolina gave the unbeaten Saints a really tough test, but the Saints came back from a big deficit (again) to win. St. Louis is in an awful spot here as it seems like every chance they get to build some momentum they square off against a really tough opponent to set them back even further.

Projected Final Score: New Orleans 37, St. Louis 14

Atlanta -1.5 At Carolina 44.5

It appears as if the shine has come off the Falcons in recent weeks and now they have to face a Panthers team that has to feel somewhat encouraged after giving the Saints a real go last week. True, Atlanta beat Washington by two touchdowns last week, but how much is that worth? The outcome will depend on how well the Panthers’ offense comes out of the gate. If they come out flat, it could be a long afternoon for Coach Fox’s troops.

Projected Final Score: Atlanta 23, Carolina 20

At Miami -9.5 Tampa Bay 44

Maybe the Bucs should stick with the classic look as Bucco Bob (and Josh Freeman) brought them their only win of the year last week. This week, they make the short hop down to South Florida where the Dolphins must be furious as they see another chance go down the drain. That was a tough loss in Foxboro last week, and if the Dolphins want to make any kind of waves in the AFC East, it has to start this week.

Projected Final Score: Miami 24, Tampa Bay 17

At Oakland -1.5 Kansas City 36.5

Clash of the Terribles, Round 2: Now this would be the perfect game for NFL Network’s Thursday night special, as beyond a miniscule few, no one actually cares about the outcome of this game. Once upon a time, this was a heated rivalry. Remember the brawl with Big Ben Davidson back in the day? There was some great football going on between these teams, but now…it’s unspeakably bad what has happened to both franchises. Now the Great Mastermind wants to fire his coach “for cause”. Hey Al, do the words “due diligence” ring a bell? Shouldn’t you have figured out whether the guy you hired has an allegedly proclivity to resolve disputes with his hands before you hired him? Now you know why the Raiders are a joke.

Projected Final Score: Kansas City 20, Oakland 17

At Arizona -8.5 Seattle 47

Despite the Cardinals big afternoon in their old hometown last week, there’s still no telling how well they’ll play week to week, especially at home. Seattle comes to the Valley of the Sun after having easily dispatched Detroit last week and see this game as a chance to get back in the NFC West race (not that that’s much of a prize these days).

Projected Final Score: Arizona 27, Seattle 16

At San Diego -2.5 Philadelphia 47

The Chargers had a big win last week against the G-Men and are finally rolling in the AFC West while the Eagles blew a golden opportunity to seize control of the NFC East last week. Now it’s their turn to “Go West” and try to right the ship on the road—not an easy task against a quality opponent. If Westbrook returns and the defense holds, they might just pull it off.

Projected Final Score: Philadelphia 23, San Diego 21

Dallas -2.5 At Green Bay 47.5

It’s like the “Ice Bowl” redux (only in November). Sadly, Coaches Lombardi and Landry will not be prowling the sidelines, nor will any of the greats of that ‘60’s rivalry be suiting up. Too bad for the Packers, as they could certainly use Lombardi’s stalwarts up front, seeing that their current offensive line is occupied by a center and four turnstiles. Do you think a guy like Ware is pumped about getting to the quarterback this week? By the time it’s over he and Rodgers will be well acquainted.

Projected Final Score: Dallas 24, Green Bay 21

At Indianapolis -2.5 New England 50

At least the schedule maker left Sunday’s best game for last. The annual rivalry game between two of the AFC’s best comes to Indy again. Indianapolis has struggled in their last two games. (Why does it always seem like they play 12 home games a year?) The Patriots come into this one on a roll, but this is the game that’ll have the biggest implications moving forward. Hate to say it, but Manning’s at home where he’s virtually unstoppable.

Projected Final Score: Indianapolis 27, New England 24
