Week 7 Preview:
San Diego -4.5 At Kansas City 43
Condolences to the Chargers’ family for the untimely passing of Walt Daniels. May he rest in peace. The best that the Chargers can hope for right now is a Wild Card shot, but to do that they have to play considerably better than they showed on Monday night, It seems like every year that San Diego starts off slowly before getting their act in gear. This week they travel to KC, who’s coming off a win on the road. Can they repeat at home?
Projected Final Score: San Diego 24, Kansas City 17
Indianapolis -12.5 At St. Louis 46
This may be the mismatch of the season so far, The Rams fought tooth and nail before falling in overtime last week against the Jags. Unfortunately for them, Indianapolis comes to town and it promises to be an ugly afternoon for the home team.
Projected Final Score: Indianapolis 28, St. Louis 10
At Cincinnati -1.5 Chicago 42
Why would anyone be buying the Bungles after last week’s dismal outing? The thing is, they do seem to play to the level of their competition, but they suffered an awful blow with the loss of Odom for the season. The Bears ought to feel a little stung after last Sunday night’s loss to Atlanta and look at this as a real good shot to rebound.
Projected Final Score: Chicago 21, Cincinnati 20
Green Bay -6.5 At Cleveland 42
The Pack smoked Detroit last week and come into this one looking to roll against a weak opponent, while the Browns must be cursing the schedule maker at this point. The Steelers basically toyed with them last week before calling off the dogs in the second half.
Projected Final Score: Green Bay 24, Cleveland 17
At Pittsburgh -3.5 Minnesota 45.5
The undefeated Vikings hit the road after another nail-biting win at home against the Ravens. It’ll be a tough test for the Vikings as the Steelers are in good shape after last week’s tune up against Cleveland.
Projected Final Score: Pittsburgh 24, Minnesota 20
New England -14.5 Tampa Bay (At London) 45
The Pats and Bucs cross the pond for the NFL’s annual Wembley match. The scary thing about this one is not the venue but the condition of the pitch. It rained heavily one year in London and the players were ankle deep in muck. Cold, rain and snow can all be conquered, but not muck. Last week the winless Buckeroos lost at home by a touchdown, but they did put up 21 points. There are no words that can adequately explain what the Patriots did last week, winning 59-0 in the snow. It appeared as if the Titans took one look at the weather conditions and rolled over and played dead, something unthinkable for a Jeff Fisher-coached team.
Projected Final Score: New England 27, Tampa Bay 13
At Houston -2.5 San Francisco 44
The Texans are an unpredictable lot, some weeks they’re lions while others they’re lambs. You can never really count on their performance. At least fans can expect that Coach Singletary will pound the ball with the ‘Niners although Crabtree will make his long awaited debut at wide receiver this week.
Projected Final Score: San Francisco 24, Houston 23
NY Jets -6.5 At Oakland 34.5
In a rematch of the 1968 “Heidi Bowl” (if you have to ask, it was before your time), the Jets (losers of three straight) hit the Coast to face a Raider team fresh of the home upset of the Eagles. Maybe it was a case of the Eagles coming out flat or perhaps the blitz package the Raiders employed may be the look in weeks to come. The Jets will now have to shoulder on without their best run stopper, Kris Jenkins, who went down for the year with a knee injury last week. Without Jenkins, the Jets are now seriously vulnerable against the run and the Raiders’ running game isn’t the League’s worst by a long shot.
Projected Final Score: NY Jets 21, Oakland 20
At Carolina -7.5 Buffalo 36.5
This is a curious matchup, as both teams won last week on the road but the Bills prevailed in OT against a more formidable adversary. Trent Edwards was knocked out (literally) of last week’s game so Coach Jauron turned things over to that reliable Man From Harvard, Ryan Fitzpatrick, to get the job done. The Panthers put up 28 points in Tampa Bay last week, but that’s not saying a whole lot. This week, Coach Fox’s team is going to have their hands full against a team that never fails to show up (regardless of the talent level).
Projected Final Score: Carolina 20, Buffalo 17
New Orleans -6.5 At Miami 47
Last week, Brees and the Saints’ offense scored 48 points against one of the best defenses in the NFL. But they were at home. This week, they travel to South Florida where the Dolphins seem to be getting their act in gear after the transition from Pennington to Henne. The Saints are undefeated, which is great but if they come into this one with the slightest sense of cockiness, they’ll be in for a rude awakening.
Projected Final Score: New Orleans 28, Miami 20
At Dallas -3.5 Atlanta 47
Even though Dallas is at home, why should anyone consider them to be favorites against a tough and hungry Falcons crew? Matt Ryan and the offense had another very good outing against the Bears while the Cowboys have been pretty much hit-or-miss all year.
Projected Final Score: Atlanta 23, Dallas 21
At NY Giants -6.5 Arizona 46.5
NBC picked a good game to close out Sunday’s slate as the Cardinals travel to the East Coast (where they’ve traditionally fared poorly) to face a chastened Giants’ team that was routed last week in New Orleans. The Cardinals will be stepping into a hornet’s nest on Sunday night as Coach Coughlin was certainly displeased with his team’s showing last week. But as was shown last week, the Giants secondary can be vulnerable to a good quarterback and talented receivers. If Arizona’s O-Line can provide Warner with time in the pocket, this game could be a lot closer than the Vegas Boys are letting on.
Projected Final Score: NY Giants 28, Arizona 21
