Game 3 vs. Montréal (7/18/09)

In a showdown of undefeated teams the Riders were pummeled 48-10 at home against Montréal. The first half wasn’t half bad from Saskatchewan’s perspective as they went to the break down only 14-8. But in the second half, the Als blew the game wide open as Anthony Calvillo threw for two touchdowns and had another big afternoon in the air, going 24-35-281, outscoring the Riders 29-2 in the half. It was another day in which turnovers told the story (eight in the aggregate). About the only neat thing on the day was the Retro look both teams sported. But it’s one thing to look “old school” and another to play it that way. About the best thing that can be said for this game is that it’s early in the season. Edmonton comes to Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, so the team needs to buckle their chin straps a bit tighter and go after it in a big way.

…In related news the Riders signed former Texas Tech standout quarterback Graham Harrell to a contract. He was a big part of Mike Leach’s pass-oriented offense and may be a big gun up North in time. His development ought to be fun to watch.
