After winning 7 out of the 8 1:00 games, it appeared as if we’d be on quite a roll for the week. Once the 4:00 games kicked off, we hit a brick wall. None of the experts fared any better than our picks and, as a result, we moved back into second place.

New England’s dominant win came at a high price, as Rodney Harrison is through for the season with a torn quad. Coupled with the news that Lawrence Maroney was placed on IR with an injured shoulder, it will make things really tough for the Patriots going forward. There is no word regarding the status of Sammy Morris, who ran over the Broncos like a steamroller before leaving the game with a knee injury.

The 49’ers fired Mike Nolan on Monday, replacing him with HOF’er Mike Singletary. It’s a tough spot for the new coach, but if there’s anyone in football who possesses the requisite leadership skills to turn around a struggling team, it’s the Great #50. He’s been deserving of this shot for a long time and we wish him the best.

The current situation in Dallas shouldn’t surprise veteran football analysts, as the combination of a heavy-handed owner, a weak coach and a “star system” mentality generally doesn’t bode well for a team-oriented activity. There are no leaders on this team as in the Cowboys’ golden days. Zach Thomas knows how to play the game the right way. It’s time for the rest of the crew to follow his lead.

Week 7 Game Balls: Joe Flacco, Ravens: This was an outstanding job by Flacco and the Ravens’ offensive unit in Miami. If they can maintain that level of play on both sides of the ball, the Ravens have a decent shot at the post season.

Buffalo Bills: A great win at home over the Chargers.

Chicago Bears: When is the last time the Bears scored 48 points in one game? That’s usually better than their monthly output.

Green Bay Packers: It was a dominant home win over one of the League’s best.

St. Louis Rams: Shades of 1999 out there…way to go!

Week 7 Duds: Dallas, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Denver.

Week 7 Knucklehead: LJ, KC. We don’t particularly respect “men” who don’t know how to respectfully treat women. The latest episode wasn’t the first, so somebody needs to emphatically reinforce the point so it will be the last. We don’t care how well he can play the game of football. It’s time that he learns how to function responsibly in adult society before being allowed the privilege of wearing an NFL uniform.
