Roscoe’s March Soccer Report:
Wrexham:
By the end of March, the possibility of Wrexham being relegated to the English Conference became a virtual certainty. Although Dragons have been highly competitive in this month’s matches going 2-3-2-8, the squad is seven points adrift of safety and it would take an improbable run of victories to keep from being bounced out of League Two. Is the side up to the task? Yes, there is no quit in Little’s squad. Everyone is pulling hard for the team to succeed in the final month. There are eight matches remaining, and the lads need to give it their all.

Piacenza:
Meanwhile in Northern Italy, the fortunes of biancorossi have markedly improved. The team went into a two-month funk following Cacia’s departure for Florence at the beginning of the New Year as the new strikers brought in (Dedic and Tulli) struggled to find their way in Piacenza’s offense. However, the defense stood tall as the side went 4-1-0-12 for the month and biancorossi have firmly reestablished themselves in the middle of the pack in Serie B. If the side remains on a roll, a top quartile finish remains a real possibility. Considering how anemic the offense was for two months, such a finish would be quite an accomplishment for Piace.

MLS/Revolution:
MLS kicked off a new season in the final week of March and Revs started off in fine fashion with a 3-nil thrashing of Houston Dynamo in Foxboro on Saturday night the 29th. This year’s team is a group in transition, as many of the key players who were responsible for the three trips to MLS Cup have departed for Europe and Coach Nicol has been forced to cobble together a new XI. Among the new faces are Chris Albright, Mauricio Castro, and Kheli Dube. Two of last year’s bench players, Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi made their first starts for New England and were instrumental to the victory. The only sour note in the win was the shoulder injury sustained by Steve Ralston that will keep him out of Thursday night’s match in Chicago. It’s only been one match, but if Revs are able to dominate the opposition as they did on Opening Night, it won’t take long for the new XI to become household names around these parts.
