Wycombe –Wrexham (3-10-1-10-21st) 11/7:
The bad news is that Dragons failed again to win. However, neither did they lose so they picked up a desperately needed point last evening at the Racecourse Ground against Wycombe Wanderers in a scoreless draw. Since Wanderers are presently 9th in the League Two table, getting any sort of points was a positive. The latest news on the managerial front is that Carey may be “demoted” in effect by a more seasoned hand from the outside. Based on the lads’ performance on Wednesday, it seems as if they are stepping up their play in support of their beleaguered gaffer.
They did come out and play well. Midway through the first half, Matty Done was brought down in the box and the learned referee awarded Wrexham a penalty. Ryan Valentine was given the honor but his kick went low left and was easily snared by the Wanderers’ goalkeep Frank Fielding. Dragons kept up the play in the first half and well into the second before the more talented Wycombe side took control of the match. However, Carey threw in some fresh legs midway through the second and the team maintained their determined play. At this point of the season Wrexham will take whatever points they can in order to pull themselves out of the relegation mire. On Saturday, Peterborough United comes to town in an FA Cup qualifier.
