The October 27th Games:

Another brief report: Piacenza and Wrexham once again went down to defeats while Revs opened their MLS East semifinal with a scoreless draw against Red Bull New York. It’ll be one match for all the marbles next Saturday in Foxboro.
Piacenza sacked Secondini after the squad’s lousy start and Coach Mario Somma’s debut ended in more futility for biancorossi, losing 3-1 at home to Chievo. The Wolves are now 4-8-0-12 in 15th place out of the 22-team Serie B. On Tuesday, the squad travels to Romeo Neri in Rimini where it is hoped the lads can pull an upset. On Saturday the 3rd, they’re once more on the road at Frosinone.

In Wales, it was more of the same for the Dragons who surrendered the game-winning goal in injury time for the second straight week, this time a dreadful 2-1 defeat to Notts County at the Racecourse Ground. Spann was red carded in injury time and moments later, Neil MacKenzie knocked in the match-winner. After 12 matches, Wrexham sits in the relegation zone at the bottom of League Two at 3-9-0-9. Two of the squad’s midfielders, Danny Williams and Mark Jones will be out with injuries for awhile so Carey is scrambling to bring in some healthy bodies via loans. At the moment, Dragons are hurting physically as well as psychologically. The squad needs not only immediate help from the outside but a number of the subs need to step up and play to the best of their ability. Sunday, Dragons host mid-table Shrewsbury Town. Even though three months of football have been played, there remains every opportunity for the team to crawl out of the hole which they have dug for themselves. A win at this stage would do wonders.

The Crimson defense came up big on Saturday in the team’s 28-21 win at home against Dartmouth. The Crimson had four picks in the game, three of them by senior safety Doug Hewlett, who was named National Defensive Player of the Week. The Big Green scored first off a Harvard turnover, but after that the home team had the better of things pretty much thereafter, due in large part to Dartmouth’s inability to hold onto the ball.

Cheng Ho rushed for 114 yards and Chris Pizzotti went 16-for-24 and 193 yards, as he spread the ball around to six different receivers. The Crimson continued their undefeated run in the Ivy League, and will travel to NYC next Saturday to face Columbia, who lost to unbeaten Yale earlier in the day. Hard to believe, but there are only three weeks left in the season.
