…Yet your dauntless (and perhaps clueless) prognosticator continues the fight. All it takes is one bad week and bam! This week was awful, perhaps there was too much emphasis on statistical comparisons and not enough gut instinct. After eight weeks, tied for first in wins with the cbs.sportsline guys in the experts competition. The only clean wins this week were Indy, KC, San Diego, Atlanta and Tennessee. Talk about a precipitous drop, wow! It was a week of disappointments. Where to begin? Let’s start with Pittsburgh. With Big Ben’s brains scrambled, why didn't Cowher simply hand the ball over to Batch. Other than last year, the book on Cowher’s always been his balls thinking more than his brains…Rothlisberger is not ready to return from the ill effects of the Atlanta game. Next up is Philly, what a dreadful showing against the Jaguars. Carolina gave it up to Dallas Sunday night, they were up 14-zip, and it slipped away in a blink. As far as the Jets and the Saints, those were tossups going in, but I was surprised at the Ravens’ offense. Perhaps McNair is back on track, perhaps not. The Denver-Indy game was a classic, a great game that came down to the last second. Indy couldn’t stop the run and the Broncs couldn’t stop the pass, it was wild. And what about the Bears? My goodness, are they good or what? Last, how ‘bout them Patriots? What a stunning victory, they did the manhandling and silenced the Baggie Dome crowd. Talk about total domination, that was as impressive an effort as the Patriots put forth in quite some time. Boy, did I ever blow that call! Next week, I’m still thinking Indy, though. Week 9 picks will be up later in the week.
